More about Hemerocallis 'Amy Mack' – the woman behind the flower

Amy and Brian fall 2006Universal Remote by artist Amy Mack
Amy Mack, the woman, is a (gorgeous) talented and vivacious artist, always smiling, in-the-moment and ready for whatever fun life has to offer.  We graduated high school the same year, both had big hair in the '80s and loved New Wave dance music.  We almost attended the same art school, and admire many of the same artists.  She says we were “separated at birth”, and we are definitely family now.

When I saw the flower I wanted to name for Amy, I knew it right away.  The fragrant eight inch flowers are about the same height as her face when we waltz or do the watusi.  The glittering polychrome flowers are voluptuous and saucy;  in blonde-toned melon pink, lavender and creamy lemon. They remind me of an indulgent frozen dessert topped with tropical fruit purée.  The cascading spatulate form is exceptionally rare, and becoming a breeder’s hallmark for me.  Hemerocallis ‘Amy Mack’s’ pedigree is a potent mix of parents to sire a new dynasty of orchid like daylilies in a rainbow palette.
