I came to daylilies by way of perennial gardens featuring mixed borders.  Although the trend in daylilies for decades was to make them 24 inches tall, I saw the need to develop daylilies to use as scrim plants, and at the back and middle of the border.  I love to see six foot daylilies blooming in front of tropical looking foliage like Macleaya cordata and Miscanthus floridulus.  The thrid image down on this page shows A.B. Stout's Hemerocallis altissima based cultivar "Autumn Minaret" with  such architectural foliage.  The very large leaves in the foreground are Crambe cordifolia, the blue flowers are platycodon.  If you would like to see some of the giant daylilies I am developing for such use in mixed borders please visit this link.
