I am introducing a
new feature on my website called "Guest Hybridizers". My concept
of hybridizing is all about moving the genus forward through an "open
source-type" exchange of information. Toward this end I am very
free with my knowledge and always publish the parentage of my cultivars
upon registration. (Unless the cross tags were lost and part of the
parentage is unknown. In that case I will always offer my best
guess to anybody that asks.) It is very useful for
hybridizers to see the results of a particular cross. So my aim
with this new endeavor is to create a page of guest hybridizers who are
breeding with my cultivars. This Guest Hybridizers home page will
link out to my cultivar data pages where I will show the results other
hybridizers are getting with my plants.
CAVEAT EMPTOR: If you want to be considered for inclusion in the Guest Hybridizer pages you need to give me the full parentage of your crosses. The goal of this section of my website is to help tease out a part of the daylily genome, to benefit all hybridizers and to facilitate the progress of the genus. In order to do that one must know both parents in the cross. I reserve the right to publish or not to publish any images/crosses that I receive. If published here, this is the only use they will receive without your express permission. Please e-mail me with your cross information before you send your images. I may need to edit the crosses published on the web due to size considerations. Once approved, you may send images of your seedlings and parentage information to bmahieu1@socket.net. I do not have DSL, so please don't send e-mails over 1,000k -- images will be optimized for the web at under 75K, so massive files are unnecessary. It would be great if you could send a photo of the other parent in the cross as well as many seedlings as you have images of. And please ONLY send images that you own -- not taken from the internet without permision. I do not want to violate anyone else's copyright. I will publish your name, garden name and cross information with the images. Thank you for being willing to participate in the free diffusion of knowledge! I believe this is the first such database which visually shows the results of a particular cross. It should be an invaluable tool to all seeking to understand and manipulate the hemerocallis genome.
