| VINCENT VAN GOGH
Mahieu EC 99-73 I This stellar bloom is unlike anything I have ever seen. The tonal reverberations reminded me of the swirling pigments Van Gogh's Starry Starry Night. VINCENT VAN GOGH was one of the 5,000 seeds I subjected to the embryo conversion technique with colchicine. Vincent's chromosomes weren't doubled, but something happened to the genes!! I grew part of this cross without the colchicine treatment, and nothing showed this many breaks! The flower is an eyed bitone, with a 1/16" cream to white border on all segments. Floral substance is creped and petal color is rosy lavender with a purple-blue eye, sepals are a lighter shade than the petals. Neon lemon lime starburst throat pattern. The flower opens with deeper colors and actually fades to clearer-whiter colors just like it's parent ETHEREAL PRESENCE -- in other words a sunfast lavender! This flower is a boon to UF hybridizers wanting to work with patterns while staying within the Unusual Forms class. "Vincent Van Gogh" is an excellent parent for the spatulate form and clear bluish purple eyes, patterns and white edges. DIPLOID, Easily pollen Fertile, some pods. One of my most used parents in '05 and '06, I got very good pod set in high shade.
