| LIGHTNING BUGS AND IRIS
30 X 40 inches, Lascaux acrylic, phosphorescent pigment on canvas I have been making paintings of lightning bugs since I was a teenager.
This piece is based on a scene in our garden in mid-May when the German
iris bloom. At twilight they seem to be enveloped in aquamarine haze,
and I couldn’t resist the addition of phosphorescent lightning bugs.
Their chartreuse glow is the perfect compliment to the iris’ purple.
The lightning bugs in this piece actually glow in the dark.
