Mahieu's Biography Page
In 1987 Mahieu traveled to Paris, France and lived in the Latin Quarter for one month.  During that time he was able to see the great impressionist masterpieces, and to visit "the shrine" -- Monet's home and garden in Giverny.  Upon his return from France, Mahieu devoted himself to painting exclusively en plein air --  outside, directly from nature.

GO3-16  MEMORIES OF GIVERNY
36 X 48 inches, Lascaux acrylic on Panel

Auction #G03-16
DETAIL of painting

When I returned home from France in 1987 I painted a number of scenes from photos I took at Giverny.  The original painting that this large work is based on hangs in our dining room  The story behind that piece is that -- my wife-to-be received it in lieu of an engagement ring when I proposed to her!  (She did eventually get a ring!)

At any rate, this is a wonderful piece, full of color, expressive brushwork and all my vivid memories of the Monet canvases I saw at the Musee D'Orsay and Musee Marmottan, as well as the garden itself.
