RIVER ROAD -- MISTY MORNING (view to the South) October 7-8, 2003 12 X 24 inches, Lascaux acrylic on canvas |
| This painting began one morning when there was
so much fog on the river that I could not see past the bank on my side. So,
as I waited for the fog to lift I discovered this beautiful vista to my left.
The river foothills were swathed in mist and streams of lemon yellow
sunlight picked out details on the canopy of foliage and shot peachy streaks
of light across the river road and freshly harvested field. The color
and brushwork came to, closely resemble, Monet's Morning on the Seine series.
Not a deliberate choice, simply an artifact of painting similar scenes
at the same time of day and experiencing the same optical effects. After the fog cleared I painted the RIVER BEND -- MIDDAY piece. |
