OTHERNESS 12 x 36 inches, plein air mixed media on Belgian linen and panel: Lascaux acrylics, pastels and aquathane varnish. This is one of my quintessential twilight pieces of the river bottoms. When the ambient air temperature is barely freezing and the snow seems to vaporize, the entire landscape becomes a transcendent state: neither physical nor spiritual but somewhere in between. “OTHERNESS”. This, to me is a symbol of the human experience on planet earth. In my artwork, trees have always symbolized humanity’s position/plight -- rooted in the earth but reaching heavenward. |
