2005 MAHIEU INTRODUCTIONS
Great news for fans of Mahieu daylilies:  I have sold my entire stock of Introductions to Bluegrass Gardens Daylily Farm !    I am focusing on research and development of new cultivars and they will be propagating and selling my plants.  With our combined daylily growing/hybridizing experience of over 30 years we will be able to more quickly and efficiently bring Mahieu plants  to the marketplace.  David's growing experience and warmer climate will enable him to bloom Mahieu seedlings and have robust divisions of Introductions ready for the market several years sooner than previously dictated by climate and growing conditions.

Please visit David and Laura Burris' website Bluegrass Gardens Daylily Farm for the most complete selection of Mahieu Daylilies for sale anywhere.  I am very excited to be collaborating with a professional daylily grower and hybridizer who wants to work with me to take my breeding program to the next level.

I no longer have ANY daylilies of any type for sale.  Bluegrass Gardens will be the exclusive source for new Mahieu Introductions.

Thank you for your interest!

Mahieu Spring 2005 Introductions

PIT OF DESPAIR
Mahieu 2004 Diploid 00-216-J
[(reuther's brown spider x Lambert seedling D-86-8C) X (SATCH MO x BLUE VENTURE)]
47 M Re 7 SEV NOC EXT 4-way branching 26 buds

(Lambert seedling D-86-8C looks like a 10 inch version of DIABOLIQUE, though with different parentage.)

This large flower displays some crispation with all segments either pinching or twisting slightly, but I did not register it as an Unusual Form. The substance is extremely heavy and wax like with ridges/sculpting coming out of the lime starburst throat edged with a lacquered violet-red zone.  Base color is deep cordovan-brown overlaid with purple-black.  The entire eyezone has a velvety BLACK-blue halo, weatherproof and sufast.  Outstanding flower!  Fertile both ways

DARKEST BEFORE DAWN

Mahieu 2004 Diploid 00-265-E
[(TRAHLYTA x OKLAHOMA KICKING BIRD) X (SATCH MO x BLUE VENTURE)]
30 M 8 SEV NOC EXT 3 way branching 24 buds, pod fertile, pollen appears sterile*

This huge Unusual Form Daylily is a super extended bloomer -- it takes 2-3 days to open fully and in cool weather the bloom can last 48 hours!  (please see garden photos link below) Blooms open blackish purple and mature to a velvety blackish grape purple with a white picotee on all segments.  Lemon-chartreuse throat.  The shape, rich color and extended bloom habit make this an incredible contribution to the Unusual Forms class.

*upon registration, I thought fertility was the opposite.

CRY OF REJOICE

Mahieu 2004 Diploid 00-314-G
{[TRAHLYTA x WILSON SPIDER] X [JEAN WISE x (ORCHID CORSAGE x JUST FOR LAUGHS-A)]}
45 MLA 9 SEV 4 way branching 20 buds

A gorgeous tropical pink Unusual Form with a hint of coral, this very orchid-like bloom has cream midribs and picotee with a creamy cadmium lemon to chartreuse throat.  Excellent seersucker substance, diamond dusted and deeply ruffled.  Three way crispation on this extremely dynamic bloom, healthy dark green foliage and fertile both ways!  Very floriferous and showy in the garden.
